KILT Protocol and Glacier today announced the founding of a joint research lab. The Web3 Identity Lab will focus on applied science in the field of digital identity. We commit to the principles of the Web3, meaning that users need to regain control over their data. The Web3 Identity Lab will do research, publish papers, and implement solutions for industry and the public sector, based on

- Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs)

- Verifiable Credentials (VCs)

- Blockchain Technology

Another focus area of the Web3 Identity Lab will be the cultural acceptance of identity concepts. The requirements for digital identity solutions have cultural implications. Asian and European views on privacy and control often differ. It is the goal of the Web3 Identity Lab to propose technological solutions, which serve the requirements of all cultures, following the principles of the Web3. We will work closely with universities, governments, industry and standardization bodies.

The Web3 Identity Lab will be founded in Berlin (Germany) and Yantai (China).

Ingo Rübe, founder of KILT-Protocol says: “We have been working together with Glacier for over a year now. We recognize their profound insights into blockchain technology and the subject of digital identity. Glacier’s Chinese network will bring excellent technicians into the Lab.”

Xiao Zhang, founder of Glacier Blockchain says: “The KILT-Protocol enables frictionless claim and attestation of digital credentials. We believe it is a corner stone of the Web3 ecosystem. It has been a great pleasure for us to work with the KILT team and now we are ready to push our cooperation to the next level.”

KILT Protocol is a blockchain based fat protocol for issuing, storing, and maintaining digital, verifiable, revocable and anonymous credentials for the Web3. It is based on Parity Substrate technology and part of the Polkadot ecosystem. Check out KILT Protocol’s website here.
